Day 5 headed 50ks to Marree for breakfast and the official start of the Oodnadatta track.
The track follows a traditional aboriginal trading route. was the original route of The Ghan and the route taken by explorer John Mc Douall Stuart on his third expedition in 1859
From Marree we headed for Coward Springs, along the way we passed the Alberrie Creek station with its outback sculptures(.Lyn found herself a new fella), walked on Lake Eyre south, passed old railway sidings and visited mound springs which have their own Aboriginal legend.
Coward Springs is very well maintained campground, with generous well sheltered sites, clean long drop toilets and shower facilities. There is also a small mineral spa/ spring, which we did not try .While one could not fault the campground physically we felt it lacked atmosphere. Price 12.50 per head.
