NTH QLD TRIP

imageDay Thirty Eight

Sunset over Somerset

Head to Kilcoy continuing along the Burnett highway, pass through Gayndah which claims to be QLDs oldest town, Goomeri and Nanango before arriving at Kilcoy. The neon revolution of the  50s and 60s either did not get here or was rejected as these towns have kept their wooden verandahs  heritage and old world charm.

They say you learn something new every day – today I learned that when decending a steep 4km slope at 20 kph sitting directly behind two cattle trucks is not the place to be, especially when Lyn has the window wound down taking photos ensuring I am subjected to the full cattle aromatherapy to which she was apparently oblivious.

Arrived at Kilcoy at 1330 booked into Lake Somerset  caravan park which is part of  Somerset Dam which supplies water to the Gold Coast Brisbane  and Logan City 80 – 110 ks away, but over 50% of its capacity is used for flood mitigatiioon.
